LITERARY ARTISTS
Maxima Kahn is a writer of poetry, essays and fiction. Her work has been featured in numerous literary journals and on popular blogs such as TinyBuddha, PositivelyPositive and The Startup. She has twice been nominated for Best of the Net, was a finalist for the Atlanta Review poetry contest, and has received scholarships and fellowships to the Community of Writers at Squaw Valley and the Vermont Studio Center. Her full-length collection of poems, Fierce Aria, is from Finishing Line Press. Her workshops on poetry, creative writing and the creative process have helped hundreds of people to unleash their creativity.
Karen A. Terrey, MFA, is a poet, editor, and writing coach, offering one on one coaching, developmental editing, manuscript review, publishing guidance, and creative writing workshops in Truckee through her business Tangled Roots Writing for clients of all ages. She has taught at Lake Tahoe Community College, Sierra Nevada College, and Sierra College. Catharine Bramkamp is a successful writing coach and author. She holds a BA in English and an MA in Creative Writing. Molly Fisk produced California Fire & Water, A Climate Crisis Anthology, with a Poets Laureate Fellowship from the Academy of American Poets when she was Poet Laureate of Nevada County. She's won grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Her most recent poetry collection is The More Difficult Beauty; her latest book of radio commentary, aired weekly for the last two decades on KVMR, is Everything But the Kitchen Skunk. She's a former sweater designer and Fortune 1000 lender.

Christy writes Children’s Books about Synesthesia- a wonderful neurological phenomenon which functions like having ‘extra senses’. She has several of the 80+ types; to her, the world is a playground of colors, sounds & textures. Like many Synesthetes, she is drawn to the Arts, and has been involved in Dance, Painting, Textiles and now Writing. Her goal is to raise awareness of Synesthesia so those with it can discover, value, and develop their gifts. My work tends to look at little-known truths about bureaucracy, statistics, race and especially education, where I spent my career as the Director of public arts high schools. Patricia Eagan is a nonfiction writer, editor, and creative consultant with an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of Pittsburgh. Every fortnight, she hosts web-based writing salons for writers to share stories, article pitches, swap publication leads, and workshop book proposals in progress. She has taught composition, expository writing, reading, rhetoric, and Women’s Studies at colleges and universities across the American West. She has also supported nonprofit and art organizations by writing grants, managing communications, and building donor support. Her creative nonfiction articles have appeared in Oakland Magazine, Nevada Magazine, Elle, and more. She lives in Truckee, CA.
Iven Lourie worked as Poetry Editor at Chicago Review in the 1960s, and he has pursued editing, writing, and performance art since. He has read his work in Tucson, AZ; Philadelphia, PA; Chicago, IL; San Francisco, CA; Sacramento, CA (The Poetry Center); the Fullerton Arts Festival, CA; and more. After his MFA at U. of Arizona (1978), studying with poets Richard Shelton and Steve Orlen, he moved to Northern California where he is Editor for Gateways Books and Artemis Books; taught at Sierra Community College for 25 years; and presently leads the Café Writers critique group and does book editing.
Julie Valin’s poetic mission is to make poetry an enjoyable and uplifting art form for all to enjoy, which is another way of saying "making poetry accessible." Bill Gainer is a storyteller, a humorist, an award-winning poet, and a maker of mysterious things. He earned his BA from St. Mary’s College and his MPA from the University of San Francisco. Judie Rae is the author of four books for young people, including a Nancy Drew Mystery. She is also the author of a novel, The Haunting of Walter Rabinowitz, and a college thematic reader Rites of Passage. She is the author of three poetry chapbooks: The Weight of Roses, Howling Down the Moon, and Family Matters, as well as the co-editor of another, Old Age & Young Hearts. Now retired, she was a college English instructor for almost thirty years.
I'm a hit-and-run creative. Whatever strikes my fancy. I am a writer and editor by trade. Currently, I write a column for The Union and am editing books. I'm also recording video interviews of homeless people to raise the consciousness and conscience of Nevada County. The videos are being edited into short-attention-span clips to be released in social media two or three times a week for the next several months. And just for fun, I've lately started writing songs.

Sierra Writers supports Nevada County writers of all genres and skill levels. Monthly meetings offer; prominent speakers, open reads, workshops, and book sales events. Fiction and non-fiction critique groups are available for members. In conjunction with Sierra College, Sierra Writers produces an annual Writers Conference. Sierra Writers has been in existence since 1982.
